Bar Build is sponsored by The Society of British Interior Design (SBID) who are very keen to support the aims of this area, “Bar.Build is seen as the place to discover all the latest within contemporary bar design. This dedicated area continues to inspire and lead the industry. This is of course something SBID is keen to support. We look forward to becoming part of Bar.10 and seeing our members at the show,” says Vanessa Brady, Chairman of SBID.

The London Cocktail Summit
Also new for Bar.10 is the London Cocktail Summit, to be held in our adjacent conference facility, with a packed programme of in-depth drinks seminars, competitions and demonstrations to educate and inspire. The London Cocktail Summit will feature many of the World's leading bartenders and drinks experts and is designed to celebrate everything good about modern drinks and drinking. Find the full programme here.

The Highlights:
—The Connoisseurs Club’s Cocktail Theatre. Cocktails have come a long way in a little over 200 years, what have we learnt from the past that can inspire future drinks development? Hosted by The Connoisseurs Club at the Merchant Hotel, Belfast, an international array of speakers will guide attendees through historical highlights of the Pre-Victorian, Victorian, Twentieth century, and Modern cocktail eras.

—  The Shark Pool: Bar! Sink or Swim! Competition. Revamping an existing bar with a new concept? Redesigning an exiting bar menu? Have a great plan for a new bar operation? Can you convince a panel of Britain’s toughest bar sharks to back your idea? This competition will see contestants pitch their brainchild to a “Shark Pool” that includes: Eric Yu from The Breakfast Group, Mark Fuller of Concept Venues,  Richard Wynne of Callooh Callay, Tim Bacon of Living Ventures Restaurants Ltd, and Simon van Moppes of Pernod-Ricard UK.

The Ultimate Cocktail Competition. With the massive resurgence of cocktail creativity over the past two decades, what are UK bartenders mixing up these days? Finalists in the competition will show off their best in Classic Revival, Tiki, Modern Cocktail, and Molecular creations.

— The Bartender “Black Box” Competition. Who’s the best at creating original drinks from a surprise array of ingredients? This competition will pit celebrity mixologists from England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland in an elimination battle to see who is the “King of the Black Box.”

—  Drink Factory. The Drink Factory was launched last year by some of the UK’s most innovative bartenders, Tony Conigliaro, Spike Marchant and Giles Cowan. Bar.10 welcomes back our esteemed alchemists to demonstrate their latest liquid inventions using smoke-guns, centrifuges, vacuum machines and other creative paraphernalia. Drink Factory will be working alongside some of the buggest names in food and drink using a variety of techniques to present a unique vision of drink making.

—  Tequila Embassy. The Tequila Embassy was introduced at Bar.08 in response to the exploding interest surrounding this category and in fact, doubled in size for 09, welcoming even more brands and bartenders to be part of the tequila fiesta. Bar.10 will host the Tequila Embassy in a slightly different format. Brand representatives will be on hand in the Embassy to educate visitors on “all things tequila” with over 30 different expressions available to sample and compare. Seminars and ‘Emissary’ classes will take place away from the show floor as part of the London Cocktail Summit so that visitors looking to find out more about the history and culture of tequila can do so in a focussed learning environment.

Endorsements from the industry
“I am very excited to do the Drink Factory talks again this year. Last year was a great success, but this year will be even better! It is great that Bar10 have set up London Cocktail Summit so as to further cocktail education. It is wonderful to host some of  the world’s most famous food-scientists, bartenders, chemists and spirits experts, all delving into the ways of the cocktail to the back drop of Victorian-era science and magic show.”
Tony Conigliaro, Drink Factory

“I've been involved with the Bar Show since its very first year and I’m always amazed at the quality of design exhibits, the student design on offer and the effort people put into their stands. My design team and I gain great energy and inspiration from being there. It’s also a great opportunity for us to meet old clients and make brand new contacts  . . .which always provides a positive experience,”
Shaun Clarkson, Shaun Clarkson ID.

“I am very much looking forward to exhibiting at the Bar Show this year with El Dorado Rums – I can’t believe its been going for 10 years! inspirits have been involved since the beginning and I have been coming to the show for 8 years, even making the trek down from Edinburgh in the early days! As Brand Ambassador for El Dorado Rums, the show is a key event in our calendar and a great way to taste the range with new bartenders. It’s also great to spend time with the rest of the trade and to see the vibrancy and creativity within the UK bar scene.”
Stefanie Holt, El Dorado Rum

“After the terrific experience I had last year at Bar09, I'm really looking forward to working with Tony and Spike at Drink Factory this year. Tony and I will be putting science and experience together to take on some perennial bartending issues: how to get the most and best out of fresh ingredients like citrus fruits and herbs, how to apply the principles of aging spirits to mixed cocktails, how dilution can actually amplify flavor, while changing drink viscosity can extend it. We'll be offering plenty of food for thought for anyone who wants to understand how drinks work and how to make them better.”
Harold McGee, Drink Factory speaker

"The Bar Show was perhaps the first of the truly credible bar shows that since spawned events like Tales of The Cocktail, the Manhattan Cocktail Classic as well as shows in Syndey, Paris, Berlin and many others. But despite the imitators London is a must-visit show as London is one of the epicentres of Global bartending. From cutting edge technqiues and recipes to a whole host of influential and inspirational speakers you can find them all in London. The change this year with the Cocktail Summit is a welcome move to allow the educational component to stand proud alongside networking and business development as a reason to visit Bar.10"
Angus Winchester, Alconomics
